Why aren't we talking anymore?
The number of times I’ve gone to places lately – bars,
restaurants, parks, and so on – and seen two people together with their heads
down over their mobile phones, instead of talking to each other.
It doesn’t bear thinking about.
They’re physically
with a person, in the real world, but apparently they prefer the company of
someone else, in the virtual world. There’s always another conversation to be
had, more interesting than the one they
could be having with the person right next to them.
It’s not exclusively young people, either. Sometimes it’s
older couples, and sometimes it even looks – heaven forbid - like husbands and
wives are doing it.
Come on.
That can’t be right.
Human company is a precious commodity.
Don’t squander it. Treasure it.
